The family saga of Casa Herradura begins with Félix López, who took full possession of the Hacienda in 1870, and officially registered it as a tequila-producing hacienda. Félix rechristened the property Hacienda San José del Refugio—a name that was destined for greatness.
The world recognized the legendary status of the tequila region in 2006, with the naming of a small section of the Mexican state of Jalisco a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This designation includes the region’s agave fields, distilleries, tabernas, the Teuchitlan archaeological sites, the towns of Tequila, Arenal, and the home of Casa Herradura—Amatitán. This designation confirms what the people of México have known for many, many years: this is a place like no other.
With a history like Casa Herradura’s, we are hardly the flavor of the month. More like the flavor of the century. 100% naturally fermented agave. 100% hacienda made since 1870. Excellence is cool at any age. Tequila Herradura deserves to be noticed.
