The CONCACAF Gold Cup is the confederation’s premier event for national teams, crowning a champion every two years.

Initially involving eight teams, the Gold Cup has developed into a competition of 12 nations, which qualify from each of CONCACAF’s three sub-regions: North America (three automatic entrants), Central America (Central American Cup) and the Caribbean (Caribbean Cup).

It has reached exceptional levels of popularity, routinely drawing capacity crowds and millions of TV viewers throughout the world.

The Gold Cup has been contested on 12 previous occasions. Mexico owns a tournament-record six titles, followed by the United States with five and Canada with one.

The U.S. captured the inaugural championship in 1991, outlasting Honduras in the final 4-3 on penalty kicks after a scoreless draw. That year, the entire tournament took place in two Southern California venues - the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the Rose Bowl.

As evidence of its stunning growth, in 2013, the Gold Cup was played in 13 state-of-the-art stadiums across the entire United States.

The current champion United States possesses half a ticket to the 2017 Confederations Cup and will face the 2015 winner in a single-game playoff for the right to represent CONCACAF in the FIFA competition. In the case that the U.S. emerges victorious once again, it will earn direct qualification.

The 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup will be the seventh FIFA Women's World Cup, the quadrennial international women's football world championship tournament. In March 2011, Canada won the right to host the event, the first time the country will host the tournament and the third time it has been in North America. The tournament will be held from 6 June to 5 July 2015.

The 2015 tournament saw the World Cup expanded to 24 teams from 16 in 2011. Canada received direct entry as hosts, and a qualification tournament entered into by 134 teams was held for the remaining 23 places. With the expanded tournament, 8 teams will make their Women's World Cup debut at the 2015 tournament. All previous Women's World Cup finalists qualified for the tournament, with established nations Germany, Japan and the USA all among the pre-tournament favourites.

The tournament will use the Hawk-Eye system as goal-line technology for the first time and will also be the first Women's World Cup to be played on artificial turf. Players expressed concerns over potential injuries from the artificial turf, and a legal case asking for matches to be moved was dropped in January 2015.
